Sugar Moon offers various Massage Treatment times: 25minute Back, Neck & Shoulders, 50 minute, and a 75minute. Within these treatment times it’s all about YOU! The 25min Back, Neck, & Shoulders is exactly what it states. It is a treatment that concentrates on the areas that hold the highest stress and tension in the body. However, the 50minute and 75minute sessions are time allotments where you decide which areas of your body you want to be treated. For instance, we can spend an entire 50min session treating just your back. These treatment times are designed to be tailored to your body’s therapeutic needs and wants!

Aside from that, these treatment times can be geared as either a Swedish Relaxation Massage or a Therapeutic Massage. What’s the difference you ask?

A Relaxation Massage is a straightforward treatment that utilizes the classic Swedish massage techniques. It is a smooth flowing style that promotes relaxation, elevates muscle tension, and increases range of motion. It also improves your circulation, so your organs and skin get more oxygen; it moves fluid through your lymphatic system. A relaxation massage encourages your body to digest its food, and get rid of its toxins. It will help you to sleep better.

It begins with a technique call effleurage, long slow strokes over the body. This induces an immediate sense of clam and well-being. Its sedative action is beneficial in soothing the nerves, allowing the stress and tension in the body to dissipate. In this type of treatment light to moderate pressure is used, depending of the client’s preference.

A Therapeutic Massage helps with chronic muscular pain, injury rehabilitation, and reduces inflammation related pain caused by arthritis and tendonitis. It integrates several techniques such as deep tissue, trigger point therapy, and joint mobilization to restore ‘tight’ (hypertonic) muscles to a pain free and normal muscular state. Generally, moderate to deep pressure is used in a Therapeutic Massage.

  • Deep tissue technique focuses on specific areas of concern but with more intensity; heavier pressure is used to release chronic and stubborn muscle tension. Always let your therapist know what amount of pressure is right for you!
  • Trigger point treatment is used to release the built up of toxins in the muscle fibres by applying pressure to a tender or hypertonic spot. As the pain and tension dissipate, it restores the circulation in the muscle fibre and relaxes the muscle as a whole.
  • Joint mobilization is a technique where you take the joint through its range of motion. This is often done with gentle shaking to loosen the joint capsule to encourage synovial (inter-joint) fluid to lubricate the joint space, allowing more freedom of movement within the joint itself.

These techniques are applied in conjunction with regular massage to give you relief from muscle aches and pains thereby achieving a sense of relaxation and well-being.
